Hi Cat, obviously there is a regional difference in these two maps above. it looks to me that the ice off Greenland is slightly less, but around Hokkaido in Japan, there is more sea ice than in 1996. is that the way you would read those charts ?
Plants need 150 ppm of CO2 for photosynthesis. If the CO2 levels drop below that land plants die and go extinct and land animals follow soon after.
In the last glacial period that ended around 12,000 years ago, the CO2 level dropped to 180 ppm, only 30 ppm above the extinction level, and CO2 levels have been dropping in the preceding glacial periods.
The Global Solar Minimum may be the trigger for the next glacial period. It has been forecast to drop the temperature by about 1C. That will allow the oceans to dissolve more CO2 and the CO2 in the atmosphere will drop as a result.
Oceans don’t dissolve CO2, fythoplankton does that and seeing ozonelayer from 1950 300 and now just 120, means the more CO2 is just the sign they are hurt by the more UV, and means also they give less O2. Culprit are the airliners flying in jetstream which steers also the Gulfstream.
And in all climate accords airliners are excempt!
UV index around the world , not just at the poles https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/primary/waves/overlay=uv_index/orthographic=-298.52,31.10,547/loc=85.624,32.193
Oceans don’t sissolve CO2, fythoplankton does that, and that’s hurt cause airliners in jetstream since 1952 brought down ozonelayer from 300 to 120, so fythoplankton absorb far less CO2 and give also less O2
BTW, The Sunspot Number is calculated peculiarly. Each group of sunspots counts as 10 and each sunspot within the group counts as 1, so the Sunspot Number with one sunspot is 11. Two groups with one sunspot within each group will have a Sunspot Number of 22. https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/solar-activity/sunspot-regions.html
2.5 trillion Euros to complete the “green” transition is nothing but a wild guess as there’s so many unknowns such as future prices of the minerals needed, whether or not carbon capture and storage can ever work on a large scale or the costs of it etc.
I suspect that like a lot of these estimates it assumes that x GW of installed renewable generation will provide close to x GW of electricity 24/7 so doesn’t include the cost of massive amounts of storage, if grid scale storage is even possible.
I did a very rough back of a fag packet calculation for how much it would cost the UK to reach net zero at current prices for battery storage, heat pumps EVs etc. and came up with £3-5trillion. Given the EU is at least 5 times the size of the UK in terms of population and size of economy 2.5 trillion Euros is pie in the sky.
But the whole point of the activities of the marxists is to destroy our societies. They sow discord. Support mass immigration. And use climate to shut down production of things and food.
You are doing a geat job Cap.
Perhaps what might ultimately turn things around – and I wouldn’t want to wager on the following – but perhaps less societal distruction and more lives might be saved over time by a rush, now, toward solar minumum coupled with continued La Ninas and the complete wringing out of the Hunga Tonga-provided moisture.
Would the resulting severe worldwide cold wake up governments to, if not abandon wind & solar, at least to return to unthrottled usage of fossil fuels and nuclear? I rather doubt that and probably they’d just contend that the efforts to reduce CO2 are finally working and must be redoubled. So it’s windmills and solar panels for all!
If they know a deep minimum is coming and there is only room on the equator for the elites. They would do just as they are doing from A to Z. In the process of gathering military forces right now.
Well there’s a painting waiting to happen. I screenshot it just in case I get time to draw/paint it.
Not likely. Today I have to try to dig a grave for a venerable old neighborhood cat who was attacked about a week ago and just died on my porch. He’s been hanging close here because he knew he was safe. His appetite kept dying down and I expected he would not make it. I don’t want to throw him in the dumpster, but I’m not sure I can find deep enough soil anywhere here to bury him.
It’s just me and Beauty now. She sticks close to me. If I ever get ready to leave here, I guess I’ll take her with me.

The bottom line is that life on Earth needs all the CO2 it can get into the atmosphere to lessen the probability of extinction in the coming years.

NOAA fabricating temperature readings from non-existent or non-operational stations which is estimated at up to 30% of total stations.
